Criminal-record and social-profile search option.
View RecordsChoose Texas DPS for the public criminal-history search and the holding court for a particular criminal filing.
DPS directs people without secure-site eligibility to its Public Website. Use that route for the public name-search product. If a page asks you to establish statutory eligibility, check that you have not entered the restricted service.
The DPS secure-service information describes access for eligible entities. Its account and pricing instructions should not be treated as the public search checkout. Check the selected product’s charges before purchasing.
| Your question | DPS route and meaning |
|---|---|
| What public history is available under this name? | The DPS FAQ directs users to the conviction name search; public information includes convictions and deferred adjudications. |
| Is the reported history actually mine? | Use DPS personal review through FAST fingerprinting. A name comparison can return another person or miss the intended record. |
| Does this cover events in other states? | DPS describes its repository as information submitted by Texas criminal justice agencies. Do not treat it as a nationwide history. |
The Texas Judicial Branch FAQ says its website has no single case-search portal and OCA does not maintain individual case records. A statewide history response and the court’s filed judgment are different outputs.
| Court named in the case | Where to direct the record request |
|---|---|
| District or county court | The district clerk or county clerk in the county of filing. |
| Justice or municipal court | Contact that court directly. |
| Appellate court | Contact the appellate court holding the proceeding. |
Keep the county, court, case number and requested document title together. For example, ask for the disposition in the identified case rather than an unspecified statewide background check. Use the directory linked from the judiciary FAQ to locate the court; confirm copy format and cost with its custodian.
DPS instructs people correcting missing disposition data to request a certified disposition from the court with jurisdiction.
Send the qualifying court document to the CRS Error Resolution Unit under DPS instructions. A private-company printout does not substitute for the required court evidence.
